Baked goods in Space
This is the second part of a little story I started a while ago. Hope you all can enjoy my silly little fluff filled thoughts.
————————————————-
It had been around 3 earth days since HumanMelanie had come on board of the ship. She had been liked by nearly all of the crew members almost right away (wich was partly because of the cookies she had broad onto the ship with her as a way of showing how thankfull she was to be let on board). The ones who didn’t trust her let their guard down after the first afternoon with her, seeing how she seemed to be a rather calm and compasionate young woman who also was capable of keeping HumanSarah, the ships mechanic and a rather energetic human, in check.
It was very early when Zek, the ships translator, awoke. Xis species did not requier that much rest and so xe used his free time to study old languages or learn new ones to be the most helpfull translator xe could be. Xe had just arrived in the kitchen area of the ship when xe smelled it. A very unique but not unlikable smell xe could not place. Confused Zek looked around, just to spot HumanMelanie standing in the kitchen pouring hot water over something that turned the liquid a very bright green on impact.
Feeling Zek’s eyes on her Melanie turned around and gave the alien a friendly, if a bit of a sleepy smile and a “Good morning.”
“HumanMelanie, why are you not resting in the cabin we providet for you? Did something happen?”
Melanie’s smile grew a bit wider at that.
“No dear. I am fine. I think I’m just used to being awake early, that’s all. It’s a necessity when you are a baker. You have to be up early so that you can prepare the ingredients for the day.”
Zek grew a little more irritated.
“HumanMelanie, you do know that you do not have to work on this ship, correct?”
At that a small giggle escaped Melanie. She just couldn’t help it. This was too cute.
“Yes, Zek. I do know that I don’t need to work, but my body is so used to waking up at a certain time that I can’t help it. Don’t worry though. I have my little helper Matcha here to stay awake.”
“Maatchaa?” Zek layed xis head to the side not unlike a curious puppy confronted with something unheard of before.
“Yes. Matcha. It’s a special kind of tea. Much more effective than coffee.”
“Oooh.” Zek’s antenas flipped up at the mention of coffee. Xe had had it once and was less than happy with the way it had tasted. The bad memory of it must’ve shown on xis face because the next thing the HumanMelanie did was wave Zek closer to her.
Xe hesitated but followed the gesture shortly after. Once xe was next to the human she began to speak again.
“Yeah. I don’t like coffee either. Too bitter. But matcha is different. Right now I am making a Matcha-Latte. Would you like to try that? I promise it tastes better than coffee.”
Zek thought about that for a moment. Humans had a rather unique taste pallet that not many other species had, so xe could be in on tasting something truly interesting. Though that didn’t mean that it would taste good. Then again the human Melanie had proven herself to be a fan of milder tastes in contrast to HumanSarah who would eat whole chillies sometimes (something that still freaked Zek out more than xe could say). After a while of turning the idea over in xis head Zek came to the conclusion that only tasting this ‘Matcha’ stuff was going to give xim an answer so xe looked up at HumanMelanie before saying: “I’d be glad to have a taste of that Matcha you have told me about. But before that I do have to know if it is, as you humans call it, spicy.”
“Oh deary me, no. Not at all. To be honest, I am not the biggest fan of spicy food myself so I try to avoid it. No worries deary.”
Her words gave Zek comfort and xe noddet at her to give her the ok.
Melanies hands came into motion almost right away, looking a blurr as she worked so fast that Zek got a little dizzy trying to follow the steps of the making of this ‘Matcha-Latte’. After just a minute Melanie gave Zek a big glass with a green-ish tinted, warm liquid. It smelled very nice but as Zek looked at the top of the liquid xe saw white clouds floating on top of it.
“Wh-what is this? HumanMelanie, how did you capture these clouds? More importantly, why are they floating on my Matcha-Latte?”
Melanie gave him a surprised look before giggling a little again, holding her hand infront of her mouth as to not embarass Zek too much or show too much of her amusement about the statement.
“Oh deary, it’s called whipped cream. It’s a dairy product, not clouds. Don’t worry, it is completely safe for consumption. It actually is one of my favorite parts about Latte. Just try it. I’m sure you’ll come to enjoy the taste.”
Zek gave the human a side glance. Was she really telling the truth? Then again why lie to xim? Xe risked it, sipping at the drink just to gulp it down moments later. It really was delicious. Not too sweet and not too bitter with a nice warmth to it that Zek felt spread through xis body.
“Easy there deary. Don’t wan’t you to choke on it by going too fast here now do we?”
HumanMelanie had layed a hand onto Zeks shoulder to try and slow xis intake of the 'Latte’ and so xe did. Setting the glass down to breathe in air feeling a little dizzy after chugging so much without breathing correctly.
“I am sorry HumanMelanie. I was just surprised by the taste. It really does taste very good.”
Melanies smile replaced her worries expression once again as she patted Zek on the back to help xim breathe more easely.
“Yeah, it does. I remember my first time trying it. I understand deary. If you want I can show you some other recipeas later that you could like. How about that?”
Zek looked at the human for a second before reflecting her smile.
“That sounds very nice.”
